What Is UltraClear Laser?

Every resurfacing laser works the same way in principle. To bring newer skin to the surface, it has to persuade the worn top layer to leave. What separates a good laser from a punishing one is how much of the surrounding skin it unsettles while doing it. Conventional CO2 lasers were superb at the persuading and heavy handed with everything nearby. That is where the two week recoveries came from, and why darker skin tones were so often told no.

UltraClear is interesting for what it withholds. Its energy travels down a cold fibre, so the warmth stays inside the pinpoint it was aimed at instead of spreading into skin nobody intended to treat. How UltraClear Works

Resurfacing sounds like sanding, and it is nothing of the kind. UltraClear works in pinpoints, thousands of microscopic channels set across the area, with untouched skin left standing between every one of them. That untouched skin is the reason recovery is counted in days rather than weeks, because the fresh surface grows out from it.

What follows is the half most people underestimate. The laser clears the sun damaged and scarred tissue sitting at the top, and that is where its work ends. The rest is your skin’s. It answers by laying down new collagen, quietly, for months, firming and smoothing from underneath long after the surface has settled. Reading your skin before anything is decided

Your first appointment is a conversation, and nothing is switched on. We photograph your skin with VISIA, which shows the sun damage and congestion sitting below the surface that a bathroom mirror politely hides. Seeing it mapped out is usually the moment the plan makes sense. That baseline sets everything that follows: which of the three depths you need, how much energy, how densely. Dr Mattia will also ask how many days you can genuinely set aside. The best plan on paper is no use if the skin is not given time to heal it out.

Numbing, and why the waiting matters

For the UltraClear and Laser Coring depths, numbing cream goes on and stays on for 20 to 40 minutes before anybody picks up the handpiece. That half hour is worth waiting out. It is the difference between a session you tolerate and one you barely register, and it is not a corner we cut. 3DMIRACL needs none of it, so if that is your treatment you arrive and begin.

The pass itself

Dr Mattia moves the handpiece across the area in an unhurried, methodical pattern, reading how your skin responds and adjusting as he goes. With 3DMIRACL it is brisk and undramatic, over in twenty minutes or so. The UltraClear depth takes longer and reaches further. Laser Coring is the most involved of the three, and the one we keep for scarring that has earned it. You will feel warmth through the numbing, and possibly a light prickle. Both are expected, and both are managed.

The weeks you do not see

This is where the result is really made. Once the surface has healed, the deeper rebuilding carries on quietly for months, thickening and reorganising the collagen beneath the scars and lines you came in about. Skin firms gradually, and the change is one you notice in how light sits on your face rather than on any particular morning. Nobody books resurfacing on a whim. Most of our Oxford patients have been turning the idea over for a year, waiting for a quiet fortnight that never arrives. What they want from us first is not persuasion but detail. So here is the detail, from the first appointment through to the review, with nothing unpleasant hidden in the recovery.

Almost everyone starts with a standalone assessment rather than one glued to a treatment. That is partly so we can plan properly, and partly so you can go home, think it over, and come back only if you want to. Where the deeper depths are on the table a patch test is often sensible first. For 3DMIRACL we can usually assess and treat in the same visit. Nobody is asked to commit to a course simply to find out whether they need one.

Some patients keep UltraClear in the diary for good. 3DMIRACL every four to six weeks holds a smooth, even surface and keeps collagen ticking along, which suits anyone who would rather maintain their skin than rescue it later. The deeper depths sit three to six months apart so the rebuilding finishes between visits. Plenty of patients run resurfacing alongside Profhilo, skin boosters or polynucleotides. Dr Mattia spaces them so each gets a clear run at your skin rather than competing for the same healing.

The fortnight before

Stay out of strong sun for two weeks, and leave sunbeds and self tan alone entirely. A tan is pigment already on alert, and there is no sense provoking it the week before. Retinoids and acids pause about a week out. Arrive with clean skin: no sunscreen, no makeup, nothing active on the area. If you are having one of the deeper depths, allow for the numbing cream and its 20 to 40 minutes once you get here, and keep the hour afterwards free.

The day itself

3DMIRACL is over in twenty to thirty minutes and feels like very little. For the UltraClear and Laser Coring depths the numbing carries most of the sensation. The pass itself runs 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how much ground we are covering. Expect warmth, and the odd prickle. Dr Mattia checks in throughout and adjusts as he goes, and most patients tell us afterwards that they had braced for considerably worse.

Afterwards, honestly

After 3DMIRACL you carry on with your day, faintly pink for a few hours, needing nothing but sunscreen and moisturiser. The deeper depths are a different proposition and we would rather set the expectation now. For the first day or two the skin looks flushed and feels tight, much as it would after too long in the sun. Then it begins to flake away, and what comes through underneath is visibly finer and more even than the skin that left. Three to fourteen days, depending on the depth. Your written routine covers barrier cream, gentle cleansing, daily sunscreen and exactly when retinoids and acids come back, and following it closely is what protects the result.

When will I see results from UltraClear?

Sooner than you expect in one way, later in another. With 3DMIRACL the brightness arrives within a few days of the pinkness settling, and builds with every session. With the deeper depths the first real change shows once healing finishes, usually somewhere between seven and twenty one days, and most people mistake that for the final result. It is not. Texture, tone and firmness carry on improving for three to six months as collagen reorganises underneath. Judge it at three months, not at three weeks.

How long do UltraClear results last?

The gains in texture, tone and clarity do not reverse. What nobody can pause is time and sunlight, so the collagen won from a deeper session generally holds skin quality for six to eighteen months before repeating is worth discussing. Is UltraClear good for acne scarring?

Lower is not none, though, so suitability is assessed individually against your skin tone, its condition on the day, your laser history and any relevant medical factors. Some depths suit some skins and not others, and Dr Mattia will tell you plainly which applies to yours.

Does UltraClear hurt?

Honestly? 3DMIRACL barely registers, and needs no numbing at all. The deeper depths are a real sensation and we would rather say so now than have you surprised. Numbing does most of the work, though warmth and a light prickle usually come through it, and Dr Mattia manages that as he goes. The tender part is not the treatment but the day after a deeper pass, when skin feels tight and hot much as it does after too much sun. That settles over 24 to 72 hours.

Is UltraClear laser safe?

UltraClear is a clinically validated resurfacing system with a well established safety record. Its cold fibre design lowers the risk of the heat related complications older CO2 lasers were known for. With any ablative laser, though, the larger safety variable is the person choosing the depth. That is why we assess before we treat, photograph as we go, and are willing to say no. Certain skin conditions, medications and health factors do rule people out, and finding that out at the assessment is the entire point of having one.

Who performs UltraClear at Cannelle?

After 3DMIRACL it is pleasingly simple: sunscreen and a gentle moisturiser daily, and nothing active for 48 hours. After the deeper depths you go home with a written routine, and the honest summary is that the fortnight matters more than the appointment did. Barrier cream, gentle cleansing, daily sunscreen without exception, no heat, no exercise and no swimming until you have healed, plus a set date for bringing retinoids and acids back. Once UltraClear makes sense, the next question is always comparative, and rightly so. Resurfacing, microneedling, radiofrequency and peels all promise better skin and arrive by different routes, and the honest answer often involves more than one of them. What follows is how we talk it through across the desk in Oxford.

What is the difference between UltraClear and CO2 laser?

They do the same job and disagree about the collateral. Both are ablative, so both lift surface tissue and provoke collagen. UltraClear or Morpheus8 for acne scarring?

These treat different halves of one problem, which is why the answer is so often both. Morpheus8 carries radiofrequency into the deeper tissue and rebuilds from below, so it is the stronger choice for indented scarring that arrives with slackness attached. UltraClear works at the surface and mid dermis, so texture, tone and the roughness acne leaves behind are its territory.
