Chin and Jawline Filler: What Would Actually Change in Your Profile?

How chin and jawline filler can change a profile, what it cannot do for fullness or loose skin, and what treatment costs at Cannelle, Oxford.

Chin and Jawline Filler: What Would Actually Change in Your Profile?

It usually happens on a video call. The laptop camera catches you at an angle you never see in the mirror, and suddenly your chin seems to sit further back than you thought, or your jaw melts a little into your neck. At Cannelle Skin Clinic in Summertown, Oxford, that side-on moment is exactly where a chin and jawline consultation begins. Dr Mattia Parducci looks at your profile from every angle, not just the front view you know so well.

Filler can do something rather elegant here. It can bring a chin gently forward, sharpen the angle below the ear and make the line between them read cleanly again. What it changes is shape. It does not remove fullness or tighten skin, and knowing that early is the key to loving the result.

The quiet power of the chin

In profile, the nose, lips and chin are seen together, like three notes in a chord. Change one and the others sound different. That is why people are often delighted, and a little surprised, when a chin treatment makes their nose or lips look better balanced. A chin that sits slightly back can also soften the line from chin to neck. It is also why the whole lower face deserves a look. Dr Mattia, who carries out every injectable treatment at Cannelle, assesses your profile before agreeing anything. He then builds projection and definition step by step, checking the result as he goes.

The gel for this area is usually firm and structural, placed close to the bone where it can act like scaffolding. In careful hands it can:

  • bring a receding chin gently forward
  • lengthen a short chin a touch, or refine its shape
  • define the angle of the jaw below the ear
  • make a softened jawline read as one clean line again

Manufacturers make dedicated products for this kind of contouring. Galderma’s UK Restylane pages on shape and contour describe products intended for the chin and jaw, and Allergan Aesthetics’ UK Juvéderm information includes the jawline and chin among its treatment areas. That is how each maker describes its own range, rather than a recommendation. Ask Dr Mattia which gel he would choose for you and why.

Where filler stops

A clean jawline is about shape, not tightening.

Filler adds shape. It never takes anything away. If what bothers you is fullness under the chin, more volume along the jaw can make the area look heavier. If the skin along the jaw has loosened, filler cannot tighten it. Cannelle’s jowls and jawline page explains how the clinic tells lost support from skin laxity. Its guide to skin laxity and jowls covers tightening options, and when surgery would do more. One more boundary worth knowing. If your chin position is linked to how your teeth meet, that is a question for a dentist or jaw specialist first. Filler can change how a chin looks. It does not change your bite.

How much it costs, and how it feels

Chin filler at Cannelle starts at £345 for 1ml, with 2ml at £620 and 3ml at £830. The clinic’s chin page notes that a balanced chin usually calls for one to two millilitres. The jawline is a longer stretch of face, so the amount depends on the definition you want and what is already there. Dr Mattia gives you an itemised price before anything begins. A £50 deposit secures your consultation, comes off your treatment and is refunded in full if you decide not to go ahead.

If you are offered more than one area, ask what each adds on its own. Treating the chin first and enjoying the result before deciding on the jaw is a perfectly sensible plan. The area is numbed for comfort, and filler is placed with a fine needle or cannula. You see the difference straight away. A little swelling and the odd bruise are normal and usually settle within a few days, and most people head straight back to their day. The clinic suggests avoiding heat and strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

The jawline is a longer stretch of face, so the amount depends on the definition you want and what is already there.

Cannelle’s estimate is that chin filler usually lasts 12 to 18 months, often longer than in more mobile areas. Allergan’s UK information gives up to 24 months for some of its products depending on the area. Both are estimates rather than promises.

What to know about safety

Tenderness, swelling and bruising are the common effects. Lumps and delayed swelling are recognised side effects of hyaluronic acid filler. The rare serious risk is filler affecting a blood vessel. Severe or worsening pain, or skin that turns pale, white, dusky or mottled, needs urgent assessment as UK professional guidance sets out, so contact the clinic straight away. A sudden change in vision or severe eye pain needs A&E or 999, and someone else should drive you.

Before your consultation, ask someone to take a side-on photograph of you in good light. Bring it along and point to what you would like to change and what you love. When you are ready, contact Cannelle Skin Clinic or call 01865 537 885 to book with Dr Mattia at 1 Oakthorpe Road, Summertown. The chin filler page has more on the treatment itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions this article tends to raise. Anything else is welcome at your consultation.

Can chin filler get rid of a double chin?

No. Filler adds shape and does not reduce fullness under the chin. In some profiles a better-defined chin changes how the area reads, but that is not the same as removing fat. It is worth understanding what is causing the fullness first.

Will jawline filler make my face look wider?

It can if too much is placed at the angle of the jaw, which is why amounts are agreed carefully. Say at the start if you want definition without width.

Does chin filler hurt?

Most people feel pressure and a little tenderness. The area is numbed, and you can ask to pause at any point.

How soon will I see the change?

Straight away. The settled result shows once swelling has eased, usually within a couple of weeks, and the clinic offers a review to check your profile.

Can chin filler be reversed?

Hyaluronic acid filler can often be broken down with an enzyme injection, which is a prescription-only medicine. Whether that is suitable is a medical decision made after assessment.
