Cheek Filler: What Could 1ml Do, and What Will It Cost?

What cheek filler can and cannot change, why 1ml means different things on different faces, and what it costs at Cannelle in Summertown.

Cheek Filler: What Could 1ml Do, and What Will It Cost?

Find a photograph of yourself from ten years ago and hold it next to your phone’s camera. Often the difference is not lines at all. It is light. Once, the top of your cheek caught it like a little shelf, and the face looked lifted and awake. At Cannelle Skin Clinic in Summertown, Oxford, cheek filler is about giving back some of that support, carefully and in your own proportions. It is priced by the amount of hyaluronic acid used, from £345 for 1ml.

What that millilitre can do depends entirely on your face. On one person it restores a soft curve that had quietly flattened. On another it would barely register. For some faces it is not the right tool at all. Finding out which you are is the enjoyable part.

Where the light went

Where the cheek once caught the light, volume can quietly change.

As we age, the fat compartments of the mid-face lose volume and the soft tissues drift a little downwards. A review of facial anatomy describes both as typical features of the ageing face. The result can be a flatter cheek, a deeper shadow under the eye, or a face that looks more tired than you feel. Hyaluronic acid placed deep along the cheekbone can rebuild some of that lost scaffolding. Done with a light hand, it brings back shape and catches light again, and the face looks like you on a really good day. That is the result worth wanting.

Good results come from knowing the limits. Filler does not tighten loose skin, and it cannot lift heavy jowls. Piling volume into the cheeks to try usually makes a face look heavier rather than fresher. If laxity is your main concern, Cannelle’s guide to skin laxity and jowls explores the alternatives. If dullness or texture is what bothers you, a skin treatment will do more than volume.

Is 1ml enough, and what does it cost?

Sometimes beautifully. Cannelle prices filler by the millilitre, so ask at your consultation whether a proposed amount covers both cheeks or each side. Then ask what it is expected to change, and what it will not. Dr Mattia Parducci, who performs every injectable treatment at Cannelle, builds structure gradually and compares both sides as he works. The clinic’s cheek page notes that cheeks often take one to two millilitres, but no amount suits everyone. A modest first treatment and a review often teach you more than starting high.

Say what you would not like, too. Some people love a sculpted cheekbone. Others want nobody to notice anything except that they look rested. A shared sense of “enough” is the secret to a natural result. Current prices are £345 for 1ml, £620 for 2ml and £830 for 3ml. Dr Mattia confirms an itemised price before anything begins. A consultation is secured with a £50 deposit, which comes off your treatment and is refunded in full if you decide not to go ahead.

The lower price per millilitre at larger amounts is not a reason to choose more. The right amount is the one your face is asking for.

Why the gel matters in the cheeks

Cheeks usually call for a firmer gel than lips, because the job is support rather than softness. Manufacturers design products specifically for the mid-face. Allergan Aesthetics’ UK Juvéderm information on restoring volume and Galderma’s UK Restylane pages on shape and contour describe products made for this area. That is how each maker describes its own range, rather than a recommendation of either. Allergan’s UK Q&A gives up to 24 months for its mid-face products. Cannelle’s own estimate for cheek filler is 12 to 18 months. How long yours lasts will depend on the product, the amount and you, so ask which gel Dr Mattia proposes and why.

You start with an assessment of your facial proportions and medical history. Treatment uses a fine needle or a cannula, with numbing for comfort, and you look at the result together at the end. You will see a change straight away. Swelling and some bruising are normal and usually settle within a few days. Most people head straight back to their day. Cannelle offers a review at around two weeks, once everything has settled, to check the balance.

What to know about safety

Tenderness, swelling and bruising are the common effects. Lumps and delayed swelling can happen, and Allergan’s UK safety information lists them among possible side effects. The rare serious risk with any facial filler is a blood vessel being affected. Some facial vessels connect with those supplying the eye, which is why sight problems are a rare but recognised complication. Severe or worsening pain, or skin that turns pale, white, dusky or mottled, needs urgent assessment as UK professional guidance explains, so contact the clinic straight away. Any sudden change in vision or severe eye pain means A&E or 999, and someone else should drive.

Another route to a fuller mid-face

Filler is not the only answer. Sculptra, which Cannelle also offers, works the other way round: it encourages your skin to build collagen over several weeks rather than adding volume on the day. Some people adore that slow, quiet change. Others prefer the immediacy of filler. Cannelle’s facial volume loss page compares the options. And you can always decide to do nothing. A consultation is for understanding what has changed, not a promise to treat it.

If your cheeks have lost the shape you remember, contact Cannelle Skin Clinic or call 01865 537 885 to see Dr Mattia at 1 Oakthorpe Road, Summertown. Bring the photo from ten years ago. It often explains the change better than words can. The cheek filler page has more on the treatment itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions this article tends to raise. Anything else is welcome at your consultation.

Will cheek filler lift my jowls?

Not on its own, and adding volume to try is a common way to look heavier. Cheek filler restores support in the mid-face. Jowls usually involve skin laxity along the jaw, which needs a different approach.

Does cheek filler hurt?

Most people describe pressure and a little tenderness rather than sharp pain. Numbing is used for comfort, and you can ask to pause at any point.

How soon will I see the result?

Straight away, softened by swelling for the first few days. The settled result usually shows at around two weeks, which is when Cannelle reviews it.

Can I combine cheek filler with other areas?

You can talk about it, but more areas are not automatically better. Dr Mattia will tell you whether another area would genuinely help the balance of your face. Treating one area and reviewing first is a good way to begin.

Is cheek filler reversible?

Hyaluronic acid filler can often be broken down with an enzyme injection, which is a prescription-only medicine. Whether that is suitable is a medical decision made after assessment. Sculptra is different and cannot be reversed in the same way.
